Getting married is so exciting!!!! If you just got engaged or are engaged, CONGRATULATION!!!! This is such an exciting and fun time in your life! First and foremost, enjoy the process!! The engagement season will fly by. So enjoy every minute! We highly recommend that one of the initial steps in planning your wedding is setting a budget. Early on we decided our wedding day was going to be everything we dreamed, but wanted to start our marriage without the restraints of debt. So we got on a budget! As Dave Ramsey says “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.”
According to The Knot the new national average cost of a wedding in America is $33,931! Can you believe it! Let me tell you, when we heard this, it was a shocker for us. So to get our heads around this, we sat down and started with how much we wanted to spend on our big day. We researched ideal venues, catering costs and photographers in our area. This helped us get a better grasp of how our money was going to stretch. Websites like The Knot and Wedding Wire have budgeting guides to help keep track of expenses.
While starting your budget don’t forget this is your wedding! So allow your self to dream! Yes, if money was no object, what would your ideal wedding day look like? Would it be tucked among the vineyards or waterside? Would you have ornate flowers everywhere? Write all these ideas down and list them based on priority.
Next how many guests are you thinking will be in attendance? Do you have a large family? Or is a small intimate celebration more your style? As you start to form the answers to these questions you can begin to really grasp how your budget is going to work for you. Below is a great budget breakdown from Here Comes The Guide:
